Today, echocardiography is a complex and multi-faceted science where entire textbooks are needed to cover only a <em>subtopic.<\/em> This daunting mass of knowledge can be overwhelming to someone who&#8217;s only just taking their first steps into the world of echocardiography.<\/p>\n<p>But don&#8217;t let that intimidate you. Anything can be made easy if you break it up and take it one step at a time. In this post we&#8217;ve assembled a list of resources for the beginner echocardiographer that can supplement <a href=\"https:\/\/www.medicalworkseg.com\/virtualecho\/\">VirtualEcho<\/a> and get you up and running in no time at all. We&#8217;ve divided the list into sections, and even pointed out which resources are free and which are paid.<\/p>\n<p>We&#8217;re continuously working on this list to make sure it&#8217;s up to date. Available for iOS only, with separate apps for <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/tte-standard-views\/id660856485?mt=8\">TTE<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/tee-standard-views\/id653647341?mt=8\">TEE<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>EchoCalc (FREE): an awesome echo calculator app by the British Society of Echocardiography (BSE) which lets you check normal values and calculate dozens of complicated echocardiography formulas just by inputting the measurements. Available for both <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=bse.echocalc&amp;hl=en\">Android<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/echocalc\/id468166426?mt=8\">iOS<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>EchoSource (PAID): a mobile echocardiography reference, simple and beginner friendly, with pictures and videos. Think of it as a mobile textbook. Available for both <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.ecgsource.echosource&amp;hl=en\">Android<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/echosource\/id532460804?mt=8\">iOS<\/a>.<\/li>\n<li>Cardio3 Echo (PAID, free <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/cardio3-comprehensive-atlas-of-echocardiography-lite\/id381006319?mt=8\">lite version<\/a> for iOS): a comprehensive echocardiography atlas. Available for both <a href=\"https:\/\/play.google.com\/store\/apps\/details?id=com.rekesh.cardio3echo\">Android<\/a> and <a href=\"https:\/\/itunes.apple.com\/us\/app\/cardio3-comprehensive-atlas-of-echocardiography\/id412523587?mt=8\">iOS<\/a>.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<h2>Echocardiography books:<\/h2>\n<p>Call me old fashioned, but there&#8217;s nothing like a good ol&#8217; textbook. There are a lot of great echocardiography books out there; here are some of the best in my opinion (all paid of course):<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.elsevier.com\/books\/echo-made-easy\/author\/978-0-7020-6656-6\">Echo made easy<\/a>, by Sam Kaddoura: A great book for the absolute beginner. Small, concise, very easy to follow with lots of pictures. This book saved my life back when I was a resident.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Echo-Manual-Jae-K-Oh\/dp\/0781748534\">The Echo Manual<\/a>: One of the most respected textbooks on the subject of echocardiography. Written by recognized authorities at Mayo Clinic, it offers an in-depth yet reader-friendly approach to echocardiography.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Feigenbaums-Echocardiography-7e-William-Armstrong-ebook\/dp\/B004VRKVCK\">Feigenbaum&#8217;s Echocardiography<\/a>: Another popular favorite, comes with a superb DVD atlas.<\/li>\n<li><a href=\"https:\/\/www.amazon.com\/Essential-Echocardiography-Practical-Contemporary-Cardiology\/dp\/158829322X\">Essential Echocardiography<\/a>, by Scott D Solomon: A personal favorite of mine, which I actually referred to while creating the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/watch?v=Dts0GkwMjCI\">TEE tutorial video<\/a>. Simple, graphic, also comes with a DVD atlas.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p>That about wraps it up.
